Acted for a leading global law firm providing consulting, strategic advice and search services to establish a local law offering in Singapore. Coordinated and managed the acquisition of a team of partners and lawyers across a range of practice areas, through to completion and successful integration.

This is not recruitment as much as it is an M&A transaction. These deals can take months to conclude and require significant investment in time and money – there are very few individuals I would entrust with these projects.

Singapore FLA

On behalf of a leading global law firm with an office in Singapore, we facilitated and managed the acquisition of one of the leading Singaporean litigation Partners, a team of senior, mid-level and junior lawyers and support staff to form the Formal Law Alliance of the international firm. This acquisition expanded the firm's offering in Singapore and enhanced its ability through the FLA to service its clients’ requirements in handling multi-­jurisdictional transaction and disputes involving Singapore law. In addition, the lawyers in the Alliance provided the ability for clients to be represented in the Singapore courts thus providing clients with a 'one-stop' holistic fully integrated service offering on matters which have an international and Singapore law issues. 

This project, led by a single Project Director, took 7 months to coordinate and manage. We worked closely with the Human Resources Director, Managing Partner of Singapore and APAC Managing Partner of our client, with constant interaction and liaison with the Managing Director and team of the FLA. Immediately prior to this project, the regulatory body and process for managing foreign law alliances in Singapore had changed. This added an additional layer of complexity to not only the approval, but also the logistics and operations of integration. The challenge for us was then in managing the expectation and timing of every individual member of the team who were joining. The operation was very quickly flourishing and for us was a company highlight and privilege to have been involved in - it is without doubt one of the most successful and integrated partnerships in the Singapore market.
